Information Technology / E-commerce
A number of recent developments have made the TCI an excellent jurisdiction from which to conduct e-commerce operations. The Electronic Transactions Ordinance 2000 creates a legal framework for e-commerce electronic transactions in the Islands. Moreover, the completion of the TCI link of the Arcos broadband fibre optic cable in early 2001, has substantially enhanced TCI's e-commerce infrastructure.
The TCI Government is keen to diversify the Islands' economy and the establishment of e-commerce companies, whether with physical presence in the territory or managed remotely through a TCI-based server, is encouraged. As the Islands have no direct taxation, the fiscal advantages of location in the TCI are obvious.
The islands have also proven to be an attractive domicile for international software and information technology companies, and the firm has acted for a number of such companies in relation to corporate, commercial and intellectual property issues and in relation to initial public offerings.
