Ariel is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and of the Inns of Court School of Law (London). He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1979 and to the Bar of the Turks & Caicos Islands in 1980. He founded the firm in 1981.

Ariel is the most senior advocate in the Turks & Caicos Islands and has extensive experience in corporate and commercial litigation. He currently specializes in banking and finance; international capital markets; insolvency; and company and commercial matters.

Ariel is a former TCI Government Minister and a former Governor's appointed member of the TCI Legislative Assembly. He has published numerous articles and is a regular speaker at international conferences on TCI financial and corporate matters. He is a member of the International Bar Association, the International Tax Planning Association, the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and the Offshore Institute. In 2000 he was awarded an OBE for his services to the Islands and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2002 in recognition of his excellence as an advocate.

Conrad is a graduate of University of East Anglia and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1986. He has also been admitted to practice in the Turks & Caicos Islands and California. Before joining the firm in 1993, he practised at the common law/commercial bar in London.

Conrad heads up the firm's dispute resolution team, and practises extensively in the area of corporate and commercial litigation, trusts litigation and in contentious insolvency matters.

Conrad is the current chairman of the TCI branch of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and is a frequent speaker at international conferences on trust litigation matters.

Conrad was appointed as Queen’s Counsel on 25th July 2006.

Owen is a graduate of University College, Dublin and has been admitted to practised in Ireland (1982), Australia (Victoria) and the Turks & Caicos Islands (1988).

He practises extensively in the areas of corporate and commercial law, resort development, and inward investment and is a regular contributor to The International Law Office and to Mondaq on TCI corporate and financial law matters. Owen is a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and of the International Bar Association.

The upsurge in foreign direct investment in TCI in recent years has seen Owen advise major clients in the resort, telecommunications and financial fields on inward investment, joint venture and regulatory issues.

 
Gordon Kerr

Gordon is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde and of the University of Dundee. After practising initially in Scotland, he was called to the Bar of the Turks & Caicos Islands in 1988. He is a former president of the Turks & Caicos Islands Bar Association and is currently a deputy magistrate in the TCI and a member of the Financial Services Commission.

Gordon leads the firm's real estate team and acts for a number of major property and resort developers. He also practises widely in all areas of corporate and commercial law and represents a number of local banks in relation to their commercial and residential lending programs.

Sarah undertook her undergraduate degree in law at Nene College, University of Leicester, before accepting a place at the Inns of Court School of Law to study the Bar Vocational Course (BVC). In 1998 Sarah was admitted to both the Bar of England and Wales and the Bar of the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Her expertise lies in the areas of real estate, tourism and resort development, business licenses, vessel registration and probate matters. She acts for the Developers of several condominium developments and has experience in all areas of development from inception to completion.

Sarah also acts for various banking institutions in the TCI in preparing and overseeing their commercial and residential security.

Sarah is a past president of the Turks and Caicos Bar Association and is currently a Member of the Bar Council. She is also an associate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

John is a graduate of the University of London (LL.B Hons) and has been admitted to practice in England and Wales (1973) and The Turks and Caicos Islands (2005).

John is a senior Associate Attorney with Misick & Stanbrook, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. He practises extensively in the areas of corporate and commercial law, regulatory law (including anti-money laundering), international trusts and wealth management. He is responsible for advising and assisting clients with applications for licences for banking, insurance, investment dealing, mutual funds and money transmission services.

Rochelle graduated from London Guildhall University where she was ranked as one of the top ten law students. Rochelle was also awarded a scholarship for her academic achievements. Rochelle undertook a Master Degree in International Commercial Law focusing on International Banking Regulation at The University of Nottingham before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London. She was called to the Turks and Caicos Islands Bar in 2006 and to the New York State Bar in 2007.

Before joining Misick and Stanbrook, Rochelle gained experience volunteering at the Royal Courts of Justice Citizen Advise Bureau in London. Rochelle has undertaken a number of placements with law firms here in the Turks and Caicos and also in Europe with McDermott Will and Emery, an international law firm. Rochelle gained an invaluable insight into the legal structure of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government by accepting a placement with the Attorney General’s Chambers where she was exposed to a range of cases and legal issues.

Rochelle practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law, real estate investment, trust, property development and probate and is currently pursuing the STEP certification.

 
Akierra Missick

Akierra completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Nottingham before undertaking the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) at the Inns of Court School of Law in London. Akierra was called to the Bar of England and Wales in July 2006 and was subsequently admitted to the Bar of the Turks and Caicos Islands later in 2006.

Akierra specialises in the area of civil litigation, with a special emphasis on employment and divorce law.

Akierra was the junior attorney in the legal team that represented the former Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands Hon. Michael Misick and three other individuals in the Commission of Inquiry in early 2009.

Some of Akierra’s notably cases apart from the Commission of Inquiry have been:

  • Adams v Prestigious Properties Ltd – the first case where the employer was successful in the Turk and Caicos Islands Labour Tribunal.
  • The Estate of McDonald Gardiner (Probate) - that resulted in the appointment of non-entitled beneficiary as administrator.

Akierra has gained international experience whilst she has been at Misick and Stanbrook. In March 2009 Akierra appeared in the Privy Counsel in London as a member of the legal team representing Daniel Trimmingham, a St Vincent and the Grenadines national on death row. Akierra is also pursuing her STEP certification.

In her spare time Akierra is a keen traveller having backpacked across the Far East in her student days. Her next big adventure is to tackle the Gulf States and the islands Pan Pacific.

Rasheida is a graduate of The University of Buckingham, Second Class LLB Honours, Upper Division. She graduated from the Inns of Court School of Law (London) and is a member of The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the said Society in 2006. Rasheida was called to The Turks and Caicos Bar in 2007. Rasheida has practiced with the firm since qualifying.

She is a member of The Turks and Caicos Islands Association of Office Professionals (TCIAOP).  She practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law and real estate.

   
Tremmaine Swann

Tremmaine is a graduate of the College of the Bahamas where she earned an Associates Degree in Law and Criminal Justice as well as a graduate of the University of Birmingham where she obtained an LLB Hons Law with Business Degree. Tremmaine undertook the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law in the United Kingdom and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Professional and Legal Skills. Tremmaine is a member of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn and was admitted to the Bar of England & Wales in 2007 and to the Bar of the Turks & Caicos Islands in 2008.

Tremmaine began working as a summer intern with Misick & Stanbrook in 2001 where she gained experience in all areas of law. She later joined the Firm full time as an associate attorney following admission to the Turks and Caicos Bar.

Tremmaine practises primarily in the areas of real estate, tourism and resort development, company and commercial matters and banking and finance. She has represented both vendors and purchasers in million dollar land transactions. Tremmaine is also a member of the Firm’s banking and finance team where she has represented some of the Turks and Caicos’ largest lenders.

During her university years Tremmaine spent some summers working as a television journalist and anchor at WIV Channel 4 where she enhanced her communication skills in preparation for her legal career. She is known for her public speaking skills and has had a number of speaking engagements at commencement exercises of both primary and secondary schools.

Tamara was called to the Bar of England Wales in 1998, and is a member of Middle Temple Inn. She is a graduate of the University of Westminster in London (LLB Hons), and completed her Bar Vocational Course at the University of Northumbria, in the North of England in 1998. Tamara has recently completed the Certificate of General Legal Education at Norman Manley Law School in Kingston Jamaica, May 2008 and will be called to the Jamaican Bar in 2009.

Tamara was a Barrister in Chambers in London specialising in areas of Civil and Public Law until her relocation to the Caribbean in 2006. She has experience in all areas of Civil Litigation and extensive advocacy experience in Courts and tribunals throughout England and Wales. Having been a member of a busy set of chambers in Middle Temple London, Tamara is an experienced Advocate and has also appeared before international tribunals both within the United States and in Africa.

Tamara worked in Kingston, Jamaica as a Legal Assistant within a Law Firm specialising in company/commercial litigation following her relocation to Jamaica in 2006.

She was admitted to the Turks and Caicos Islands Bar in October 2008 and specialises in Company / Commercial litigation, Trust /Contentious Trust disputes and Labour/Employment Law.

   
Susan Barrington Binns

Susan Barrington-Binns is a graduate of the City University, London and Leeds Metropolitan University. She was admitted to the roll of solicitors of England and Wales in May 1999 and has recently been admitted as an Attorney of The Turks & Caicos Islands in April 2009.

Susan is a specialist in construction law with over 10 years experience in dealing with construction disputes and advising on construction contracts. She provides advice on all standard forms of building contracts including JCT, NEC, AIA, and sub-contracts. She also advises on consultant’s appointments and warranties, novations and assignments and bonds and guarantees. She is experienced in adjudication, arbitration, mediation and structured negotiation as alternative dispute resolution methods to litigation.

Susan is the former head of a construction department at a leading solicitors practice in York, England during which time also undertook a Masters of Science Degree in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at Kings College, London.

Susan is also experienced in commercial and residential property transaction, including Sales and Purchases, Development Agreements and land mutations, Leases and Licences, Mortgages and loans. She also advises on intellectual property issues, shipping matters, and employment issues.

She is a member of the Society of Construction Law, the Adjudication Society and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Clive Stanbrook QC
 

Clive is a graduate of University College, London and was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1972. In 1977 Clive established the firm of Stanbrook & Hooper in Brussels. Since then he has worked almost wholly in the area of European and international trade law. One of the pioneers of anti-dumping proceedings in the EU, he has been involved in many of the leading cases over the past twenty years. He continues to maintain an advocacy practice. He has appeared in courts in many different jurisdictions. He was called to the Turks & Caicos Bar in 1983 and to the New York Bar in 1989. He was president of the British Chamber of Commerce in Brussels between 1985 and 1987 and has been a member of the Board of the Belgo-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain since 1987.

Clive is the co-author of "Dumping and Subsidies", now in its third edition (Kluwer, 1996); co-author of "Extradition: the Law and Practise", now in its second edition (Oxford University Press, 2000); and co-editor of "International Trade Law and Practise (Euromoney, 1990). He also writes and lectures on a variety of European Union and international trade topics. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1989.

With effect from 14 February 2005, Clive joined the international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery www.mwe.com and now operates in Brussels under the new name of McDermott Will & Emery/Stanbrook LLP.
