We have now completed our first week of the lock down imposed by the Turks and Caicos Government.  The Government and the Governor have been providing regular updates and it appears as though there has been widespread support for the measures and compliance with the regulations.  This is encouraging and equally important is the fact that the number of positive cases of the Covid-19 has stabilized at 5.  There are a number of suspected cases and these are being tested so the number might rise.  The Government is posting daily updates to its web site https://gov.tc and we recommend you visit the site for more detailed information.

The Government announced a “stimulus package” which has now been published.  This includes tax waivers and deferments for the hospitality industry and other measures intended to offset some of the adverse effects on the economy.  We have carried out a review of this and an overview is published on our web site at www.misickstanbrook.tc.  It remains to be seen whether these measures are effective or sufficient and we will update you in due course.

To take advantage of some aspects of the stimulus package it is necessary to make an application in the prescribed form and our lawyers are currently familiarizing themselves with these procedures.  Should you need any advice or assistance in this regard please do not hesitate to contact us. One important provision in the package is the reduction of stamp duty by 50% which anyone considering buying property should take advantage of.

Our lock down is due to come to an end on April 15th and if there is no significant increase in the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases between now and then we are hopeful that we will be able to get back to our office on or about that date.  When we know more about this we will let you know.

All of our staff are working at home and hopefully there has been no significant disruption to the service we provide to you.  If you experience any problems please contact any attorney in the firm who will make sure that you get a response as soon as possible.

We continue to wish all of our clients, colleagues, staff and their families well during this challenging time.
